Have you noticed that business cards are getting more creative and
colorful than ever? It is understandable of course that in this digital
and creative age, people compete to stand out and be remembered using a
unique business card printing strategy. Custom business card designs
and business card templates abound in the Internet. Apparently color business card printing nowadays is getting more competitive than you can imagine.
However, people are getting a little bit carried away. It is a business
card and not a promotional advertisement. You do not have to add in
every color of the rainbow, or toss in a Picasso to have a beautiful
and functional business card. All you need is a simple but memorable
style perfect for yourself and your firm.
A simple yet elegant
style works: I have seen a lot of crazy business cards designs lately.
In fact some are already on a borderline between business cards and,
well something else entirely. This does not necessarily mean they are
bad. Some are downright gorgeous. But for me, you do not have to be too
superfluous with the design. As I have learned, most of the respectable
firms have their own simple yet elegant style.
A simple example
of this would be a business card with a full color background. A
company logo in a corner may be embossed with a glittering material
contrasting with the background itself. Subtle French curves or simple
lines can frame the name and other contact details. The name itself can
have a flowing script, while others details use a simple roman font.
This type of card is elegant, and demands a certain kind of
respectability. It conveys to the receiver of the card that you are
serious business contact with an elegant business card printing style.
You do not have to be loud to stand out.
Practical not
Whimsical: Some business card designs are throwing convention out the
window and using different sizes, shapes and materials. Those designs
are of course interesting to look at and even receive. However, there
must be some kind of line that must not be crossed when doing this.
Business cards are supposed to be kept using “roller decks” wallets and
other containers. It is hard to keep a whimsical business card with
ribbons or embossed metal letterings in your wallet. Also, there is a
chance that someone might mistake it for another thing altogether and
play with it or worse throw it away.
I believe you can be practical about your business card and yet still be creative. The business card printing company would appreciate the standard format, and most of us would be happy to keep it in our wallets.
I hope however that this does not discourage you from being creative.
What I am saying is that you can express your creativity in a practical
but subtly interesting way. You can be smart by taking the elegant and
respectable route. We are not children displaying our fancy toys. We
are business men and women with a business to run.
